Q.
Where are lessons conducted?
Usually the lessons will be conducted at your home.

If inconvenient, please request for another location, such as a convenient public location or the tutor’s home. The location has to be pre-determined and agreed upon before lessons can be confirmed, following which any changes in location have to agreed and approved between both parties.
Q.
How are lessons conducted?
As every tutor has their unique teaching style, personality and methodology, we do not adopt a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach for lessons. This is why we match your child’s needs to the most suitable tutor.

In addition, the tutor will use the first lesson to gauge your child’s areas of weakness, current level of proficiency and interest in the subject so as to be able to conduct the lesson based on the syllabus or the student’s learning needs.

If you prefer, you can communicate with the tutor by providing suggestions on the focus areas (eg. composition writing), as well as freely discuss and conduct lesson plans without committing to fixed lesson arrangements or plans.
Q.
Can I postpone lessons dates & timings?

Yes, but all postponements of lessons save for special cases such as medical emergencies must be made at least 24 hours in advance of lessons.

If the first lesson has to be postponed, Captain Tutor must be informed via phone call at +65 98286927 (Mon to Sun 9am-8pm). If you are informing us at least 48 hours in advance, you may SMS +65 98286927 instead. We will send a confirmation SMS to you for acknowledgement.

After your first lesson, please make arrangements directly with the tutor. A failure to make a postponement at least 24 hours in advance may lead to your incurrence of compensation to the tutor for time loss, which is generally half a fee for a lesson.
Q.
Can I terminate lessons if the tutor is not suitable?
Should that happen, you may terminate the tuition arrangement anytime after the first lesson, with Captain Tutor informed at least 24 hours in advance before the next lesson and payment made for all conducted lessons. If the lesson was terminated before 24 hours, you will incur a late charge of 50% of that lesson’s total fee.

To terminate,

  • First inform Captain Tutor via a phone call to +65 98286927 (9am-8pm) at least 24 hours in advance before the next lesson.
  • Secondly, please pay half of the amount for the conducted lessons to Captain Tutor with the receipt whatsapped to our Finance Department at +65 98286927.
  • Thirdly, please pay the other half of the lesson fees to the tutor.
For confirmed tutor assignments, you have to complete at least 1 full lesson before you can terminate the tuition or request a tutor change. Any terminations before the first lesson is complete may lead to the first lesson’s fees to be charged as an administrative fee.
Q.
Will tutors postpone lessons?
Tutors are not encouraged to make frequent postponements to the lessons. However, as tutors may have sudden emergencies from time to time or fall sick, please offer some degree of flexibility. If the postponements by the tutor are more frequent than preferred, please communicate with them and remind them to abide by your agreed upon lesson schedule. If the tutor poses more difficulties for you in this area, please inform us immediately for a new tutor.
Q.
Can my tutor terminate the lessons?
Tutors have to commit for at least 4 weeks before terminating lessons.

In the case of the tutor backing out before the 4 weeks are up, and without a valid reason, you will only be required to pay half of the tuition fees and any applicable taxes to the agency and forego the tutor’s payment. Although we are unable to force tutors to commit for more than a month, our encouragement of our tutors to be responsible enough to commit until at least the end of year exams have led to a majority following through.
Q.
What about adding of subjects or students ( eg. siblings )?
It is better to start with 1 subject before adding more subjects. If you wish to get the tutor’s services for your other children or increase the frequency of lessons, please put in your request to the agency to ensure that the tutor remains accountable for the lessons conducted.

As Captain Tutor is not responsible for any engagements made outside of the agency’s knowledge, tutors and parents need to immediately inform the agency of any changes to protect themselves.
